CIPAM launches reports on IPR regime in India- ‘Initiatives taken by Government’ and ‘An Overview’

As reported by Spicy IP, Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM), a body established under the aegis of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), to guide policy in IPR and create a conducive environment for IP awareness and enforcement has released two reports which can be viewed here:

The first document outlines the recent initiatives taken by the Government such as:

  • Approval of National IPR Policy,
  • Strengthening of institutional mechanism by bring all IPRs under one umbrella (Copyright Act, 1957 and Semiconductor Integrated Circuits Layout Design Act, 2000 transferred to DIPP) and one appellate board (Under Finance Act, 2017 Copyright Board has been merged with IPAB), creation of CIPAM
  • Clearing backlog- in patents and trademarks
  • Increase in filings- in patents and trademarks
  • Business process re-engineering- amendments in Patents Rules and Trademark Rules; Transparency- dissemination of information through web-based innovative utilities; Expedited examinations of patent applications; Guidelines on computer related inventions
  • Augmentation of Human Resources- in patents and trademark offices
  • Creating IPR Awareness
  • IPRs in school syllabus – included in NCERT curriculum for class XII
  • IPR Enforcement toolkit for police
