Lucknow bench of Allahabad High court issues contempt notice to CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi in connection with release of Padmaavat on Jan 25:

    In a petition filed by Kamta Prasad Singhal, the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has today i.e. January 16, 2018 issued a contempt notice to CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi and given him three weeks’ time to file his response to the contempt notice. The Court had earlier vide order dated November 09, 2017 passed in P.I.L. Civil No.26899 of 2017, dismissed the petition but given the petitioner liberty to file the complaint with direction to CBFC chairman to to decide the same expeditiously, if possible within a period of three weeks. The Petitioner submitted that the complaint was filed by the petitioner on 13.11.2017, but no decision has been taken on his complaint till today. At this, the high court issued contempt notice to Joshi.

    On a related note, reportedly, Haryana has become sixth state to ban the release of Padmaavat after Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
