I&B MINISTRY ASKS TV CHANNELS TO DISPLAY CREDITS OF SERIALS IN HINDI, REGIONAL LANGUAGES TOO

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) issued an advisory to all private television channels to display the casting/credits/titles of Hindi and regional languages serials in the respective languages as well. The ministry said the move is aimed at enhancing the outreach and benefit TV viewers of the country.

The I&B ministry stated that several Hindi and regional language TV channels have been displaying the castings/credits/titles of Hindi and Regional language TV serials only in English. “This practice tends to deprive people versed with Hindi and regional languages of the valuable information about the casting of TV serials/programmes,” it said.

TAMIL NADU POLICE INFORMS MADRAS HIGH COURT THAT IT WILL NOT ARREST PA RANJITH

The Tamil Nadu police has informed the Madras High Court that it would not arrest film director PA Ranjith against whom a case has been registered in connection with his reported “derogatory” remarks against a  10th century Chola emperor.

When the anticipatory bail plea of Ranjith came up before Justice P Rajamanickam, the government prosecutor informed that police would not arrest him. Recording the submission, the court posted the matter for hearing to June 19.

The judge also directed the police to file a counter to the director’s plea against the case registered by Tirupanandal police in Thanjavur district.

The case was registered under IPC sections 153 (provocation to cause riot) and 153 (A) (1)(promoting hatred etc) following a complaint lodged by a Hindu Makkal Katchi functionary alleging that the director’s speech was aimed at creating divisions among people of different castes.

DELHI HIGH COURT RESTRAINS SEVERAL PARTIES FROM BROADCASTING THE WORLD CUP WITHOUT A LICENSE

The exclusive broadcasting agency for major sporting events- the ICC World Cup 2019, Channel 2 Corporate Group has filed a suit against illegal broadcasting of the World Cup. The Delhi High Court filed an ex-parte interim restraining order ceasing over 60 websites and radio channels from streaming the World Cup. Channel 2 stated that they have exclusive copyright for the ICC World Cup and alleged that the Defendants were not permitted by the Plaintiff to broadcast the matches and therefore their telecast live or deferred score updates via audio or visual means was illicit and amounts to piracy. The court was in agreement and passed an interim injunction or restraining order barring them to infringe the Plaintiff’s copyright by telecasting any live or deferred match updates until the next hearing. However, the court did take into account Star India Pvt. Ltd vs Akuate Internet Services Ltd., a Supreme Court judgment which allowed a person to transmit score updates without a license, but with a delay of 15 minutes.

SUPER 30: IIT STUDENTS PLAN TO FILE FRESH SUIT SEEKING STAY ON RELEASE OF FILM

As per reports, 4 IIT Students – Avinash Baro, Bikash Das, Monjit Doley and Dhaniram Taw, are planning to file a fresh suit to stall the release of the Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Super 30’. There is a pending PIL against Anand Kumar on whose life the movie is based. The PIL that was filed against Anand Kumar last year asked him to reveal the names of the 26 students, he claimed, successfully got admission in IIT in 2018. These students are aggrieved by the fact that despite the PIL being pending and Anand Kumar failing to reveal the names of the students in the court, the film celebrates his life and sends out an incorrect message. They are also not happy with the fact that CBFC has cleared the film even though they were made aware of the situation by him.

TITLE INFRINGEMENT CASE AGAINST ‘KOLAYUTHIR KAALAM’: FILM RELEASE POSTPONED

The Madras High Court has granted an interim injunction on the Nayanthara starrer ‘Kolayuthir Kaalam’  film’s release, and has asked the film’s producers to respond by June 21. The order was passed in a suit filed by Balaji Kumar claiming he holds the rights to the film’s title. He claimed that Kolayuthir Kaalam was the title of a novel by author Sujatha, and that he had bought rights to the novel and the title. Balaji also asserted that the Tamil word ‘Kolayuthir’ was in fact coined by Sujatha himself.

According to reports, in the suitn, Balaji also said that his repeated notifications to the film’s makers went unheard, after which he approached the court for an interim injunction.
