BJP leader files police complaint in Hyderabad against John Abraham starrer Satyameva Jayate for hurting religious sentiments of Shia community

As per reports, a police complaint has been filed against makers of the upcoming John Abraham starrer ‘Satyameva Jayate’ by a BJP leader in Dabeerpura police station in Hyderabad alleging that the trailer of the movie has hurt the religious sentiments of the Shia community.

Satyameva Jayate is produced by T-Series and is releasing on August 15. In the complaint filed, BJP Minority Morcha’s city general secretary, Syed Ali Jaffry stated that in the trailer, John Abraham is shown committing murder following Matam. This particular scene is hurting the religious sentiments of the Shia community, the leader added.

In the complaint filed with the Hyderabad Police, the BJP leader said that there has been an attempt to, directly and indirectly, hurt the sentiments of Shia community. The leader added that they had also approached the state Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) which had assured them that their complaint will be forwarded to CBFC’s head office.

Speaking to reporters outside the police station, he said, “We filed a complaint with the Station House Officer (SHO) that on June 28, the trailer of a film released, which was produced by T-Series. In the trailer, one shot shows the festival of Muharram and it depicts a scene of Matam (self-flagellation). The actor is later shown committing a murder following Matam. This has hurt our sentiments.”

After filing the complaint against Satyameva Jayate, the irked group of complainants further threatened to stage a protest if their demands are not met by the filmmakers and would not let the movie release.  They also said that they would ensure similar protests were held not just in Hyderabad, but across the country. They further demanded that the case should be registered under Cinematograph Act and Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
